5K walk to support breast cancer research draws community members for a morning of celebration and a commitment to halting the disease
On Saturday, October 20, at 9 a.m., the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk unites the community around the goals of honoring breast cancer survivors, raising awareness about prevention, and funding research to fight the disease. The goal this year is to raise $250,000 for breast-cancer research, which will help the American Cancer Society find potential cures and new treatment options.
After registering for their spot in the 5K walk, customers can join a team or participate as individuals. They’ll also be able to choose between a noncompetitive walk or a competitive race. Each person receives a T-shirt marking their support for the movement, and breast-cancer survivors receive a special shirt. The walk begins at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and progresses through uptown Charlotte. Water tables provide refreshment opportunities along the length of the course, while pre- and postrace events enliven the atmosphere with music and warm-up exercises, food and drink, emcees from local TV and radio stations, and fun for the whole family.
